There is a lot of buzz on the underground dancehall scene in Jamaica about newcomer, Propally. Specifically, everyone is comparing his lyrical abilities and work ethics to dancehall heavy weight, Vybz Kartel.
Ever since his days as a student at the Norman Manley High School in Kingston, Samora Gray, better known as Propally, eyed a career as an entertainer. He has worked earnestly from then to achieve that goal.
After a self-imposed break from the business, Propally re-emerged in 2007, connected with producer Arthur Wale from Free Willy Records, and released the track entitled “pretty browning”. The song, which was cut on the “madagascar beat”, gained consistent rotation at dances. But it was not until two years later when Propally hooked up with producer Omar Benjamin and Frenz For Real Records that he really started to get the attention he deserves. To date, the partnership has yielded several songs including the undeniable hit single “Rum Inna It” which was released jointly with Money Green Muziq. The same labels also put out “moma bawl” and a few others.
“To me, the music is a in-born thing. It jus’ come naturally,” said Propally, who has not only been logging a lot of studio hours he has also been busy hitting the stage at several events. He has performed at high-profile live shows such as West Kingston Jamboree, Champions in Action and Campfire, and at dances by established sound systems such as Stone Love and Swatch International.
