It all started earlier this year in January when Orisha Sound met singer/producer Shel-K
of Springwata Productions. The two met at RJR communications (Kingston,
Jamaica) as she was wrapping up an interview and he was about to have one.
Numbers were exchanged as they spoke of collaborating on a track. Almost
immediately they began working together on a number of songs one of which was
“embrace it” featuring Sizzla Kalonji. While producing the video they were
robbed at gun point and Shel-K was shot and hospitalized for days.
Refusing to give up, they continued working and released the
official video shortly after he left the hospital. Once she was featured with
Sizzla (undeniably one of the most recognized names in Reggae/Dancehall)
persons began enquiring about Orisha
Sound. They soon learned that she is a world pop singer who plays 16
instruments and has been in music since she was 4 and touring since she was 9.
And she has worked with Anthony Hamilton, Stevie Wonder, Devante Sing, Snoop
Dogg and many more established acts. Her first reggae performance was at age
14. Now she is one of the most dominating young talents on the reggae/dancehall
scene. “Embrace it” eventually went number one on two top Jamaican charts this
year; CVM Hit list and Hype TV.
Once she captured the attention of the masses Orisha Sound and her team, which now
included Shel-K, continued pushing. They released a Reggae version of her pop
hit, “beautiful sin”, a collaboration with veteran roots singer, Wayne Daniel
called “sunshine lady” (which is currently number 5 on the Hit List CVM TV
chart), and topped it all off with a collaboration with the Dancehall King,
Beenie Man, on a track titled “world war three”. The Reggae mix of “beautiful sin” as well as
the songs with Wayne Daniel and Sizzla Kalonji was included on CUPID (Orisha’s
studio album which was released by RBC Records in July of this year). While
recording music Orisha was simultaneously filming scenes for her reality show
PROJECT O which airs on Punch TV in the USA which is affiliated with several
networks nationwide and going on Direct TV early 2014.
As 2013 rolls down, Orisha
Sound continues to work hard! Over the last three weeks she has done more
than 30 radio interviews (this includes commercial and underground stations in
the UK, USA, Caribbean, Africa and Europe). And she is booked to perform at GT
Taylor’s Reggae Christmas Extravaganza (one of the biggest Reggae events in
Jamaica) on December 25th where she will be doing a set by herself
as well as performing “world war three” alongside Beenie Man. Orisha Sound who is based in Kingston and
Los Angeles has formed a new band in Jamaica.
She is coming out in 2014 with new smashing solo singles and collaborations
with trendsetting Grammy winning artists.
